Grateful, Reflective, Empowered
As the year comes to a close, we’re looking back at all we have to be grateful for. We at the Alaska Center for Excellence in Journalism fund are thankful for the support we’ve received over the past year. Your gifts have helped us plan for a sustainable future, train and retain journalists already working here, support reporting projects in Alaska, collaborate on the Press Forward movement to Alaska, and learn from organizations across the country who have the same goals in mind: Bringing in-depth, accurate reporting to our communities.
In 2024, the ACEJ fund awarded nearly $40,000 to reporting projects for our most recent grant opening, and $85,500 for professional development of working and future journalists in Alaska. We’ve worked closely with other Alaska and national organizations to bring funding opportunities to Alaska newsrooms, and to develop scholarships and collaborative events in the Alaska journalism community.
Some of the highlights:

Working with and learning from Press Forward Local chapters across the country as we collaborate with Alaska funders to establish Press Forward Alaska.
Connecting local news outlets with technical assistance during the Press Forward Open Call, leading to $700,000 in funds to Alaska news organizations.
Sending two reporters to the State Capitol to learn from a seasoned capitol mentor, while bringing firsthand reporting back to their communities, rather than reporting from afar.
We look forward to all that 2025 has in store!
