Fall 2023 Grants Announced
Alaska Center for Excellence in Journalism awards $45,000 for in-depth and arts reporting in Alaska
Oct. 30, 2023 — The Alaska Center for Excellence in Journalism has awarded nearly $45,000 in grants to Alaska news outlets and freelance journalists through its Fall 2023 Alaska Impact Reporting and Alaska Arts Reporting initiatives.
ACEJ received more than a dozen applications, and granted funding to six projects, covering the arts, education, climate change and fisheries. Journalists receiving this funding are based in rural and coastal communities, the Kenai Peninsula, Southeast and Fairbanks. ACEJ will share specific project details once the funded work has been published by the grantees.
The Alaska Center for Excellence in Journalism provides support for in-depth, high-impact journalism in Alaska. ACEJ encourages ethical coverage of complex, underreported issues, journalism that inspires action, improves lives and protects democratic values.
ACEJ is a program of the Alaska Community Foundation, and is funded by the Atwood Foundation. ACEJ uses funds to support local journalism through reporting projects and professional development through programs like the Alaska Press Club and its Legislative Reporter Exchange, a partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Department of Journalism and Public Communications.
